UX and UI design for a transit wayfinding app serving a mid-sized European city, with a focus on accessibility and first-time users.

Problem

The existing transit app had a 2.1 star rating. User research revealed three core failures: the route planner required too many steps, real-time updates were buried, and the interface was inaccessible to users with low vision.

Solution

A complete redesign built around three principles: one tap to start a journey, live status always visible, and WCAG AA compliance as a baseline.

The route planner was reduced from seven steps to three. Real-time disruptions surface on the home screen. All interactive elements meet minimum touch target sizes. Type is set at 16px base with user-adjustable scaling.

Outcome

Pilot testing showed a 40% reduction in task completion time and a 28-point improvement in System Usability Scale scores.
