Packaging design for a range of botanical skincare products, balancing premium positioning with sustainability commitments.

Brief

Sable Botanicals makes small-batch skincare from foraged and farmed botanicals. They wanted packaging that communicated craft and premium quality without looking like every other clean beauty brand — no millennial pink, no sans-serif minimalism.

Design Direction

I drew from 19th century botanical illustration — detailed engraving-style drawings of each key ingredient, printed in one color on uncoated stock. The typography is set in a classical roman with generous leading. The palette is entirely derived from the ingredients themselves: sage green, bark brown, stone grey.

All packaging is FSC-certified paper with soy-based inks. The refill system means the outer box is designed to be kept, not discarded.

Reception

Sable sold out their initial production run within three weeks of launch. The packaging has since been featured in three design publications and shortlisted for a sustainable packaging award.
